Harry Sutton scored two tries as Gosford All Blacks went down 27-10 away to leaders Reading Abbey.

The double was suitable reward for a spirited fightback from the visitors in the second half.

Abbey had won all their previous matches in the division this season and took just five minutes to breach the Gosford defence, when Tom Waterhouse dived over.

It was the first of four tries scored before half-time by the home side, who built a 27-0 advantage.

The Abbey supporters must have expected their side to run up a cricket score, but instead Gosford seized the initiative after the break.

Prop Tony Baughan had a try disallowed when he was found to have been held up, but the momentum was with the visitors.

Both sides lost a man to the sin bin as Gosford’s Dan Hughes was penalised for a high tackle, sparking a melee which saw Danny Pawlett yellow carded.

The visitors’ endeavour finally bore fruit 12 minutes from time, when Will Watts burst through and set up Sutton to score.

Within three minutes the fly half dotted down again, this time after a surge from wing Ben Bodinham.

While it was too late to trouble Abbey, the fight on show will have encouraged the All Blacks.

Justin Sammüller scored a last-gasp try as Didcot came from behind to win 18-17 at home to Farnham Royal in the Championship.

It was deja vu for both sides, as it was the second time this season Didcot had pipped their opponents at the last.

Ronnie Booth and Frankie Dorrian also scored, with Josh Witts kicking a penalty for Didcot, who stayed on their own in third position.

An injury crisis hit Didcot 2nd, but their Thames Valley Invitation League game at High Wycombe 4th went ahead after the hosts loaned them some players.

Sam Lacy and John Murby scored tries, with Murby adding a conversion, but Wycombe ran out 58-12 winners.
