Witney hooker Sam Collins was stretchered off with a broken ankle in his side’s 20-10 home defeat to Reading Abbey.
Collins was taken to hospital after the injury to his right leg and was operated on the following day. He was due to be released by today.
Abbey led 6-0 thanks to two penalties by the time Collins’s game ended prematurely.
A good move was finished by full back Jake Thomas to make it 6-5 at half-time.
Despite having the wind behind them and the better of the forward battle, Witney conceded two converted tries.
The scrums went uncontested as Abbey ran out of props.
Fly half Pierre Dubost gave home fans something to cheer with a try on the final whistle.
Wallingford fell to a 39-8 defeat at leaders Maidenhead.
Ed Keohane put the hosts ahead with a try he also converted, but Wallingford prop Kris Blaszko bundled over.
Keohane converted a score from Simon Cripps, and Blaszko’s 17th-minute penalty kept Wallingford in the hunt, but they had lock Dorian Jenkins sin-binned.
Tries from Mike Burnett, Cripps (2) and Phillip Norman, plus a Keohane penalty and conversion saw Maidenhead cruise it, despite Mark Mueller’s yellow card.
