RUGBY UNION: 'We needed more control'

Chinnor head coach Jason Bowers admitted his side had not been at their best against Chippenham.

He said: “Although we won so much ball, we weren’t always clinical when we needed to be.

“However, we scored five good tries and picked up no injuries. We have had two good wins in a row after a disappointing derby defeat.

“When you are experimenting with ways to play and winning with bonus points, you have got to be delighted with the way things are going.”

Bowers added: “Some areas of Chippenham’s game were pretty good.

“They had very little first-phase ball to play with because of our absolute dominance up front.

“I thought Alan Cawston was outstanding and Sam Jones was rock solid.

“I was just disappointed with the way we didn’t control the game as well as we can.”

Oh dear! Is this a slippery slope? Quins scored 11 (E-L-E-V-E-N) 'bad' tries against this bunch of losers (literally, they are a pleasant group of lads, but......). Does this ring a bell: "Although we won so much ball, we weren’t always clinical when we needed to be". Deja vu? Or pick and drive (yet) again? Come on JB, this smacks more of PR than rugby, so perhaps you should be letting on how to score a 'bad try'. And more worryingly, the statement "you have got to be delighted with the way things are going”, is just unlicensed hyperbole. Compare and contrast, Chinnor go fourth thanks to stupendpous Quins win in Bournemouth. Acknowledge.
I had a pleasant week in Jersey and am disappointed to have missed yet another glorious Quins win, but when I hear that you can win a game with 12% possession as Quins did in Bournemouth, I do really wonder what Chinnor are trying to achieve with their repetitive pick and drive tactic.
Bring on the last 5 minutes of the cup semi-final with the Quins approximately a dozen points behind.

City Cyclops do you not have anything better to do than **** about Chinnor. The first season in a long time Quins have been successful and suddenly your on your high horse spouting garbage. As for the wages/bonuses Quins are in the same boat as Chinnor, as for the gate charge it still perplexes me how you can charge £5 to get into your dump of club. I suspect that once your contingency of foreign players look else-where next season Quins will go back to relegation battles as per the norm and we can hear less of you as you have nothing to shout about.

LeoGuillaume - great comments.

Just wanted to pick you up on one small error - Quins play at Oxford RFC - so I dont think it is even their club!

At least we own our own ground and facilities.... what would happen to good old Quins if the "Oxford City Partnership" fell apart?

Come on Guys let’s not criticise Oxford RFC. They celebrated 100 years this season.
Their facilities have remained the same all that time.
And Quins are very happy there........
Highlights the extent of ambition of both clubs.

If I were Quins I would be worried about the over reliance the coach seems to put on 3 or 4 players. Those who have reasonable memories might remember what happened to Chinnor when they had that situation and what happened when they lost those players. Cyclops - Rather than criticise Chinnor for their forward orientated approach, why not worry about the lack of depth in quality players at Quins and then try to imagine what it would be like when you lose them, which you will.

Bored. Do you lot ever stop banging on about who is better? It’s like kids playing top trumps…and not even cool cars or hot chicks top trumps. It’s National 3 south top trumps…hardly exciting.

Ahhh, as Rodney King said: can’t we all just get along?

Richard Ugby speaks the truth. The banter can be entertaining but it ain't exactly the top of the rugby tree we're talking about

You got it Power.
Check the U20 article though regarding your comments about strength in depth. Two more in the squad and 2 who chose not to play as well. Not quite the gloomy picture you predict.
Do you have an idea of were the leavers are going? Are they after lucre?

No idea where intentions lay with the players but judging by the amount of Grove players who were approached following the recent cup game, things are pretty desperate. Just bear in mind where Chinnor found themselves under previous management and what is happening at Quins now. Don't get too far ahead of yourself with the bragging!

Only time will tell as who will be around next season. I guess taking stock of the teams playing in the last match of this season vs. 1st match of next is the best way.
Unless behaviour has changed, I would guess that Quins will be faced with at least 10 changes at the start of next season as the team has to find its feet again.
Thankfully, Chinnor is past that situation and should next season have a very high percentage of the current players back on the field to push for promotion again.

Good try chaps, but do me a favour and acknowledge that Quins have done well. Yes, you may be bored of me mentioning pick and dirve and £7, but come back about the rugby rather than facilities and that all the Quins players are leaving next season. Now is the hour, we charge £5 to watch a stack of tries being scored at both ends (who cares about the facilities - do you want a corporate box?) and have neither broken any rules nor paid any players. So well done Quins for finishing third in SW3! Bragging rights have been earned!
Power, precisely how many Grove players were "approached" after the cup game and what did this approach consist of? Come on, you took a caning so why would the Quins start poaching your players? There are a couple of players there whose own game would benefit from playing at a higher level, but a conversation at the bar would hardly constitute an "approach". This illustrates a village mentality, excusable in your case as you are not a town like Thame RFC.
And correct C_F, there will be about 10 changes in the Quins squad next season because we have a youth policy which is kicking in.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see on that one - Chinnor Colts have just won their league with maximum points and a match to spare!
