Tim Ellis’s last gasp try and conversion earned Gosford All Blacks a 22-22 draw at Phoenix, but not safety from relegation from the BB&O Premier Division.

Gosford gained a point when flanker Eugene Griffin took a quick tap penalty and combined with fly half James Holburn to put wing Ellis in under the posts.

Phoenix winger Jason Townsend gave them the lead with a tenth-minute try.

Gosford full back Murray Stewart sent wing Ed Ronan bursting over to level the scores.

Scrum half Chip Jefferies and Holburn gave Ellis sufficient room to scamper over for a try, which the latter converted.

Gosford led 12-5 at the break, but Phoenix hit back well.

Centre Lars Turner notched a try, and although Ellis slotted a penalty, a score from No 8 Charlie Hurd levelled proceedings.

Wing Adam McMillan’s try, converted by full back Nigel Coltman, left the hosts 22-15 ahead.

Harwell threw away a lead before losing 27-19 at home to basement boys Swindon College.

This now leaves Harwell, Gosford and Abingdon fighting it out to avoid relegation.

An interception try from Andy Lee, converted by Ryan Hodnett, gave Harwell the lead.

College replied with a converted try, Harwell saw flanker Kev Wood score, again converted by Hodnett. Hodnett then bagged a try in the corner to make it 19-7.

Despite having the wind behind them in the second half, Harwell conceded 20 points.
