CHINNOR may only need one point to secure a play-off place, but Matt Williams wants at least 11 before the end of the regular season.

The Thame-based side have occupied second place in National League 2 South for the majority of the campaign.

They sit a comfortable 19 points clear of third-placed Redingensians with four games to go.

Even though second spot looks in the bag, director of rugby Williams is eager for a home tie in their bid to win promotion to the third tier of English rugby.

And with his side nine points ahead of Sedgley Park, who are second in National League 2 North, Chinnor need a minimum of two victories to make that a reality.

“We’re one point away,” said Williams, who hands starting places to Nick Bingham, Joe Hutchinson, Josh Barton and captain Danny Barnes.

“But, putting that aside, the focus is getting a home play-off and to guarantee that we need 11 points from the remaining four games.

“That is our priority.

“Yes, in April I have the luxury of – once the play-offs are guaranteed – resting and rotating, but it’s still about momentum.

“So this week at Taunton we’re sending a very strong team with the target of maximum points.”
