JONNY Bentley converted Orisi Nawaqaliva’s last-minute try to earn Chinnor a dramatic 24-24 draw at Clifton.

The Oxfordshire side took a sixth-minute lead in the National League 2 South contest, thanks to Phil Chesters’s unconverted try.

Chris Leversley responded with a penalty for Clifton on 12 minutes.

Handling errors prevented Chinnor from adding to their 5-3 lead before the break.

Danny Barnes powered over for an unconverted try on 42 minutes, and it was soon 17-3 when Chesters crossed again. Bentley added the extras.

Chinnor lost their dominance in the lineout and Clifton hit back when Andy Chesters drove over and Leversley converted.

It was 17-17 on 64 minutes as Henry Harper scored. Leversley, once again, added the extras.

Clifton then made it three tries in 13 minutes when Mitch Spencer’s grubber kick put Callum Roberts over for a converted try.

The visitors threw everything at their hosts with six minutes to go.

They were rewarded for their efforts when Nawaqaliva squeezed through Clifton’s defence for a bonus-point try.

Bentley stepped up to convert and earn Chinnor a draw in an exciting game.
