WHEATLEY feel reborn after they were nominated at the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards.

The Oxfordshire side, who play in the BB&O Premier, have made the shortlist for club of the year.

Wheatley were down in the dumps only five years ago.

But when a group of former players and supporters stepped in to form a proactive committee, the club made improvements.

This included the refurbishment of the clubhouse and a new sponsorship deal, which sparked positive changes on the pitch, including a promotion.

Club captain Simon Chadbone said: “Like a phoenix from the flames, Wheatley has been reborn.

“Five seasons ago, we were on the verge of collapse and the club was struggling to fulfil fixtures.”

The awards ceremony takes place at Twickenham tomorrow evening.
