BANBURY have made history by fielding their first all-girls team.
The north Oxfordshire side have a thriving women’s team as well as a mixed outfit of boys and girls.
But from now on Banbury have the opportunity to further develop ladies rugby, with an under 13s team.
Their first step was to play a friendly against Grove at Bodicote Park, which they lost 12-3.
Chris White, Banbury committee member and girls team ambassador, said: “It was an historic day for the club, it is the first time in our history we have had a girls match played here.”
Grove’s lead coach Nick McKeown added: “It’s great to see another club in the county offering girls’ rugby, and with the organisation in-situ at Banbury, plus the determination and attitude of the players, I am sure that they will thrive.”
