CHEIF executive Adrian Smith says he is excited about Oxford Rugby League’s move to Tilsley Park in Abingdon.

The Blues, who play in Kingstone Press League 1, have been based at Iffley Road for three years, but have made the decision to up sticks and start afresh in south Oxfordshire.

They will play on a 4G pitch in the middle of the athletics track and Smith is delighted to seal the move, but admits there is sadness about leaving the home of Oxford University RFC.

He said: “Iffley Road has been terrific in establishing Oxford RL and gaining the envy of many a club with its wonderful pitch and pavilion and yes there is a touch of sadness about moving, but the feeling of excitement about Tilsley is huge.”

But with the new pitch at Tilsley only expected to be ready by mid-March, Oxford will still play their first two league games of the season at Iffley Road.

“This is just in case of weather delays or unforeseen hold ups,” said Smith.
