CHRIS Stables scored ten points as Abingdon kick-started the calendar year with a 20-7 victory at Alchester.
In a physical BB&O Premier encounter, the hosts were unable to take their opportunites and fly half Stables slotted two penalties to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.
Abingdon’s clinical work with the boot continued after the break, resulting in Robert Tyreman and Callum Percival dotting down from well placed balls over the top.
Alchester’s try was scored by Neil Bee on 60 minutes.
Third-placed Abingdon’s victory saw them close to within five points of leaders Gosford All Blacks, who were in cup action on Saturday.
All Blacks reached the Southern Counties final of the Senior Vase by seeing off Minety 10-5.
Played at Supermarine’s ground as the home side’s pitch was unplayable, a Tim Ellis penalty put Gosford ahead.
The visitors were awarded a penalty try after an illegal tackle on Ben Bodinham as he went over the line.
Ellis added the extras to make it 10-0.
Minety were rewarded for their efforts when Matt Stone forced his way over late on for an unconverted try.
All Blacks face BB&O Premier rivals Milton Keynes in the final on February 6.
Wheatley were in league action, but lost 13-9 at Hungerford.
In the Championship, Littlemore hammered Berkshire Shire Hall 38-0, while Didcot beat Aldermaston 24-0.
Faringdon were edged out 11-9 by Phoenix.
