Lewis Anderson says he is ending on a high after marking his last Varsity Match with an unprecedented sixth victory.

The prop, who already held the record for the most Varsity wins for a player, has been ever present in all six successive wins.

But after winning his fourth of six Blues as a post-graduate yesterday, regulations state he is unable to play in the match again.

Anderson said: “I’m bowing out on a high and it is the most special performance I have been a part of.

“Coming out of this group is going to sink in at some point and soon there will be a big gap in my life.”

Captain Henry Lamont was forced after four minutes with a head injury following a tackle on Wales international Jamie Roberts, who did not come out for the second half due to a dead leg.

The chemistry student admitted watching from the touchline was difficult.

He said: “It was stressful, but I am so proud of the boys – it was just incredible.”

Club captain George Messum, who was unable to play as his history of art course did not meet Blues Sport criteria, said: “A sixth successive win has definitely not sunk in yet.

“But we’re happy we got the result.”
