CHINNOR were unable to hold on to their first-half lead as they suffered a 23-15 defeat at Worthing.

The visitors were camped in the hosts’ half for the first 20 minutes of the National League 2 South clash and Greg Goodfellow’s penalty gave them a 3-0 lead.

Quick handling then put full back Keiron Goss over for an unconverted try on 15 minutes.

Worthing’s first venture into Chinnor’s territory earned them a penalty converted by fly half Sean O’Hagan, but the visitors soon hit back.

After kicking deep into the hosts’ half, a rolling maul from a lineout allowed Ben Manning to score under the posts.

Scrum half Goodfellow added the extras to make it 15-3.

But the visitors reduced the deficit on 40 minutes when James Arthur crossed and O’Hagan converted.

Worthing had the conditions in their favour after the break and O’Hagan slotted two penalties to give them a one-point lead.

And with 20 minutes to go they dealt the killer blow, when a high cross-field kick bounced away from the Chinnor defence and Matthew McLean pounced to score.

O’Hagan added the extras.

Injury hit Henley Hawks suffered a fourth-straight defeat as they lost 32-5 at Hull Ionians in National League 1.

Hawks were first on the scoreboard after two minutes when Simon Perry crossed for an unconverted try.

But their lead was short lived as tries from Alex Crockett and Sam Wilson, as well as an Isaac Green penalty, which saw Iwan Davies sin-binned, made it 15-5.

Will Foden then touched down as Hull led 20-5 at the break, while Hawks also had flanker Ollie Spanswick yellow carded.

The hosts continued in the same vein, with Foden scoring his second try and Green converting to make it 27-5.

And Hull added a fifth try when Ben Winterburn finished off a fine move.
