A TRY by winger Pete McKinley from the last play earned Wallingford a 29-29 draw away to 14-man Bicester in Southern Counties North.

Bicester were a man short after half an hour when No 8 Dan Spencer was red-carded for a retaliatory punch on Wallingford’s Gavin Harmer following a high tackle.

Harmer was shown a yellow card.

At the time, Wallingford were leading 17-10.

Bicester had led 10-3 thanks to an early forwards try from skipper Matt Dye, converted by Tom Miles, who added a penalty. Phil Dawes kicked a penalty for the visitors.

Wallingford scored tries through Tom Swainston and centre Ralph Smith, with Dawes adding two conversions.

Bicester drew level when fly half Dave Hampton scored a try, converted by Miles.

In a scrappy second half, Bicester landed two penalties to go 23-17 ahead, but Wallingford replied with a converted try from Finn Sayce.

Two more penalties from Miles gave Bicester a fivepoint lead.

They looked like hanging on, but after the sin-binning of flanker Ryan Biscoe, McKinley scored in the corner, the conversion falling short.

Banbury Bulls sparked into life in the second half as they won 32-17 at Droitwich in Midlands 2 West South.

The visitors led 8-3 at halftime, Sam Stoop scoring his first try for the club while Ed Phillips added a penalty.

Bulls scored four more tries through Phillips, Matt Goode, Jed Boyle and Adam Walsh, Phillips converting two.
