OXFORD RL crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season when outgunned 84-16 by in-form hosts Swinton Lions in Kingstone Press League 1 on Monday.

Swinton, on an eight-match unbeaten run, romped home as Stuart Littler and Chris Atkin scored 52 points between them to show the gulf in class.

Despite playing up the slope, Swinton raced into an 18-0 lead in the first 16 minutes thanks to tries from Littler, Atkin and Ben White.

Oxford got onto the scoresheet when Danny Thomas fed the oncoming Steve Scott, who went over from close range.

Littler’s quick-fire double, which completed his hat-trick, clicked Lions back into top gear.

In the last ten minutes of the first half, they added three tries from Atkin, Littler and Ian Mort to lead 42-4 at the break.

The second half continued in much the same vein.

Swinton doubled their tally thanks to tries from Littler – his fifth – Atkin’s third, Chris Rothwell (2), Grant Beecham, Josh Barlow and former Oxford player Shaun Robinson, who raced over from 90 yards.

Atkin took his tally to 32 with ten conversions from their 16 tries.

Oxford scored two tries in the second half.

Nathan Kitson found space to put Tom Davies in under the posts and then intercepted to score the final try of the game, which he improved with his second conversion.
