MATT Williams has declared himself happy with the opening month of pre-season training ahead of Chinnor’s friendly at Coventry on Saturday, writes JACK JOHNSON.

The National League 2 South side have not played since April 25 and have attracted several new players to the club, including former Cinderford trio Nevaro Codlin, Mark Davies and Jack Adams.

Williams, the club’s director of rugby, is looking to use Saturday’s friendly at the Butts Park Arena to give every player, who is fit, game time.

However, he admits, against a Coventry side, who finished third in National League 1 last season, it will be tough.

Williams said: “I am very happy with how pre-season is going.

“We are not conditioned for a game because it is our first friendly, but we are going into it in good shape.

“I am using this game as nothing more than an opportunity to let players get some form of their first full live contact.

“We are playing the team who are favourites to win the league above and theoretically they would be expecting to win comfortably.”

Fly half Davies is a doubt (sprained ankle), while No 8 Joe Vandermolen will not feature after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Flanker Ryan Long (broken foot) and prop Ian Stock (knee) are injured.
