CRAIG Burrows said he could not have asked for a better start to Oxfordshire’s County Championship Shield campaign after he watched his side demolish Berkshire 59-27.

The hosts racked up nine tries in a comprehensive victory at Chipping Norton on Saturday.

Francois Wiese (2), James Monks and Luke Brown went over in a rampant 30 minutes.

Head coach Burrows was delighted with his side’s performance, particularly the first half.

“It is all about who starts best at imposing their game plan,” he said.

“The first 30 minutes could not have gone any better.

“We knew Berkshire would be strong and most of their team are from a higher division.

“But we knew we had a very good team ethic and we could not have asked for it to have gone any better.”

Oxfordshire travel to Buckinghamshire on Saturday for their second Pool 1 fixture and Burrows is urging his players not to drop their standards.

He said: “It is a springboard now.

“We just need the same performance on Saturday.

“I am sure that sort of performance will be enough.”
