Oxford Harlequins failed to take their chances and lost 23-10 at home to Brixham in a hard-fought National 3 South West game.

Quins started strongly and kept a strong Brixham pack subdued, scrum half Ethan Carlisle keeping their back row on their toes with lightning breaks and combining well with fly half Will Sharratt.

Sharratt put Quins ahead with an 11th minute penalty, which Brixham matched with a drop goal from his opposite number Ben Lovell.

A superb try by Jack Avery, converted by Sharratt gave Quins a 10-3 interval lead.

In the second half, an interception try from Brixham’s right wing John Brown reduced the deficit to 10-8.

Quins lost centre Mike Lee to injury on the hour – his last game before returning to Australia.

Five minutes later, a quick Brixham throw-in and slack Quins tackling saw left wing Dean Squire score a try.

Lovell converted and then added a penalty to put the visitors 18-10 ahead.

Quins pressed hard for the last ten minutes but were caught cold when Brixham centre Tom McClean broke and went over in the corner to give them victory by a flattering scoreline.
