Gordon Ross has been given the honour of leading London Welsh out to face his former club Edinburgh Rugby at Murrayfield tomorrow (2pm).

The Exiles make ten changes as they seek their first win in Challenge Cup Pool 4 following defeats by Lyon and Bordeaux Begles.

Murrayfield holds some very special memories for the the London Welsh fly half and assistant coach, whose two two nephews, will be assuming mascot duties for the day.

“Being named captain is nice,” said Ross.

“It will be nice to run out with the family there.”

Ross marked his Scotland debut in 2001 at Murrayfield by recording a 23-point haul against Tonga and eight of his first nine Scotland caps came at the famous venue, while it was also the setting for his first Scotland try, against Italy in 2003.

But for the 25-times capped former Scotland fly half, it’s 2006 that stands out, when he helped Scotland to a famous victory over England.

“Anytime at any level that you beat England is always quite enjoyable. It was a good year,” said Ross.

“I’m not sure they’ll be as many people there this weekend as there were in 2006, but it’s an opportunity for some of our guys to play in an international stadium.”

Former Wales and Bradford Bulls star Elliot Kear is set to make his London Welsh debut at full back.

Chris Elder and Rhys Crane are named on the wings with Alan Awcock coming into the side at inside centre.

Paul Rowley, Ross and Nic Reynolds keep their places from last weekend’s 43-14 defeat to Northampton Saints in the Aviva Premiership.

In the forwards, hooker Nathan Vella and flanker Carl Kirwan are the only survivors from that clash.

Tonga international Eddie Aholelei and Ben Cooper come into the front row, Josh McNally and Matt Corker form a new second-row partnership and Ben West and Ben Pienaar start in the back row.

Welsh head coach Justin Burnell said: “Some of the players who played out in Lyon in our last away game in Europe, have really progressed and moved forward.

“This is a chance for the likes of Josh McNally, Ben West, Ben Cooper.”

Group leaders Edinburgh make four changes from the side that travelled to Zebre last weekend.

Moving up from the bench into the scrum half berth is Grayson Hart, while James Hilterbrand starts at hooker with Ross Ford unavailable due to a minor back injury.

A reshuffle of the back three in the pack sees Tomas Leonardi start at flanker and captain Mike Coman move to No 8, as Scottish international David Denton recovers from a shoulder injury.
