OXFORD’S Gus Jones says England Under 20s have more to come after beginning their title defence with a 63-3 win over Italy in Pukekohe, New Zealand.

Jones, who is also an Oxford University student and Wasps academy member, scored twice in England’s nine-try victory, which saw Henry Purdy (Leicester), from Milton-under-Wychwood, come off the bench.

“We’re really pleased to start the championship with a win,” said Jones (pictured).

“We know that we’ve got more to come, which after a 60-point win can only be a positive.

“I was pleased to get a couple of tries, but it was more about the team tonight.

“We started well and tailed off a bit in the first half, but then raised our game in the second 40.

“This is a long tournament with not a lot of time between matches – we’ll recover and review this game and then switch attention to playing Australia on Friday night.

“There’s not much room for error in the tournament so we know that we need to get our processes right and put in a good performance.”
