SEB Stegmann says London Welsh must not repeat the poor starts which almost proved costly against Leeds when they face Bristol tonight.
The 25-year-old back described the semi-final second leg of their 60-58 aggregate win over Leeds as “one of the craziest games I’ve been involved in”.
But as the Exiles prepare to host Bristol in the final, Stegmann says they must be more consistent.
“That’s the main thing we have got to look at,” he said.
“We got away with it against Leeds, just through our endeavour, but we can’t really afford to do the same against Bristol because they will put us to the sword.
“We have got to start well and be positive straight away.
“In the last 15 minutes against Leeds, when everything started coming together, it was a case of ‘why weren’t we doing that before?’”
Stegmann remains confident Welsh can find the form to combat Bristol and secure a Premiership return.
He said: “It all comes down to this and we have definitely got the team to do it.
“We have had a game-by-game mentality, but week-in, week-out, it is aiming for promotion that has been the driving force for us.”
