OXFORD Cavaliers opened their account for the season with a 46-26 home win over Valley Cougars.

Wes Newton hit form with a four-try display, while Mike Benson (2), Andy Winfield, Waisake Roko and Jack Briggs also went over.

Winfield was on target with five goals for a 14-point haul in a display which saw his side race into a 36-16 half-time lead.

Cougars responded with five tries of their own as Mike Jones (2), Ian Newbury, Bew Thomas and Lee Jenkins touched down. Nathan Bruford landed three goals.
