RUGBY UNION: Exiles' form augurs well for play-off bid

DANIEL Browne says London Welsh’s form against their top-four rivals bodes well for the play-offs.

Browne hopes Welsh’s 100 per cent record against their fellow promotion contenders remains after tonight’s clash at Bristol in which he starts at No 8.

And he believes it gives them an edge as they bid for a Premiership return.

“Looking at our record so far, we have done really well against the other teams in the top four,” said Browne.

“It would be great to get the double over Bristol going into the play-offs, but what happens then is more important.

“We think we have got a good enough team to beat anyone on our day.”

Browne believes that his former club Leeds and Rotherham Titans will also be tough opponents in the play-offs, with all four having realistic hopes of reaching the Premiership.

“The competition in the top four is excellent, but when you get into the semis it’s anybody’s game,” he said.

“All the teams are really prepared to make the step-up.

“We would love to get back up to the Premiership.”

“We have had a really good season and the coaches have been really good to work with.

“They have built a really strong squad that has given us a great chance of promotion.”

This will be Browne’s maiden play-off campaign with the Exiles, but it will be player-coach Gordon Ross’s fourth.

The former Scotland international fly half has not played since Welsh’s 36-15 defeat at Plymouth on February 1, but is ready to feature if required.

“I am doing more fitness work now, but the boys on the park are doing an excellent job,” said Ross.

“It is just about making sure these guys are prepared as well as possible.

“If I am picked then great, but if not I am confident that the other players will do a better job than me!”
