JUSTIN Burnell is keeping positive about London Welsh’s chances of qualifying from Pool 2 in the British & Irish Cup.

Welsh opened up with narrow defeats to London Scottish and Pontypridd before hammering Edinburgh Academical, who they visit today, 73-10.

Another big win for Welsh and a victory for Scottish at home to Pontypridd would put Burnell’s men back in the picture, with only the pool winners progressing.

“It’s up to us,” said Burnell.

“If we manage to get another good performance against Edinburgh and win, we can still be in a good position.

“Pontypridd have got to come to us and they won’t relish that.

“We need London Scottish to beat Pontypridd and that would create an opportunity for us.”

First, however, Burnell is not underestimating today’s opponents.

“Edinburgh were a bit disappointed with their own performance,” he said.

“They are going to come with a totally different approach and intensity. They are at home and it means a lot to them.”

Reflecting on last week’s victory, Burnell said: “I just thought our attitude was good.

“When we had the chance to create, we scored ten tries.”

And having scored freely in the home match, Burnell will be looking for more of the same attacking today.

“If it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it,” he said.
