RUGBY UNION: Dark Blues banking on experience

Oxford Mail: James Harris James Harris

JAMES Harris says Oxford University can use experience to their advantage in tomorrow’s Varsity Match at Twickenham.

Harris is one of 13 returning Blues in Oxford’s side to take on Cambridge University, who have just five.

The openside flanker, who is also the Dark Blues’ vice-captain, scored a try in last year’s 26-19 Oxford victory and is relishing another run-out at Twickenham.

“The Varsity Match is hugely pressurised and it should be to our advantage to have 13 players in our starting XV who have experienced it already,” said Harris.

“It does help to know what the day looks like.

“The day itself just goes by so quickly, so to pick out bits and pieces is quite difficult.

“I do remember the celebrations at the final whistle though.”

Harris captained Oxford when John Carter was injured earlier this season, but also had to take charge in the 2012 Varsity Match.

“I had a bit of a taste for it at Twickenham last year when JC went off injured after about 25 minutes,” he said.

“As individuals, we bring quite different things to the group and we complement each other quite well.

“He is keen on having leaders right across the side.

“It is a huge honour to have captained the side in any of our fixtures.”
