MIDLANDS 2 WEST SOUTH
BANBURY Bulls were left frustrated after a 36-28 home defeat to Nuneaton Old Edwardians.
Bulls battled back from 19-3 down to briefly lead 23-22 and trailed 29-28 in the final minute.
Captain Eddie Phillips kicked Banbury ahead with a penalty, but some weak tackling helped Nuneaton to score tries through flanker Alex Cape and centre Ashley Kalnins (2), scrum half Tom Short converting two.
Bulls wing Jed Boyle was tackled just short, but they reduced the deficit at half-time to ten points thanks to two Phillips penalties.
With Old Edwardians flanker David Melville yellow-carded, Banbury started the second half on top.
Full back Joe Mills crossed near the posts for Phillips to convert, but Short slotted a penalty.
Carl Daniels gathered fly half Alex Fogavini’s grubber kick to score and Phillips converted for 23-22.
However, Old Edwardians’ dominant pack earned a penalty try, convered by Short.
Fogavini went over for 29-28, but, from the final play, visiting lock Scott Parry forced his way over, with Short converting from out wide.
