RUGBY UNION: Goode predicts tougher times ahead for Chinnor
CHINNOR head coach Matt Goode is expecting October to prove far tougher than September for his unbeaten side.
The Thame-based club visit Canterbury in National 2 South tomorrow in what will be centre Goode’s last match before having a thumb operation.
“There is no reason why we can’t keep our winning run going, but October is going to be tough for us,” said Goode.
“Most of the teams we are playing have already won two or three of their games.
“The way the fixtures turned out, we played sides, who didn’t start so well in September “If we can put a marker down this month by winning as many games as possible, that would be great.
“We feel very confident and sharp and should have won than 27-15 against Redruth last week.”
Goode’s fellow head coach, lock Andrew Smith, prop Nathaniel Titchard-Jones and wing Ben Farr are all unavailable.
Tom Mowbray, George Blewitt and Joe Marston are added to the squad.
Locks Josh McNally and Dave Clements return for Henley Hawks’ National 1 clash at home to Hull Ionians.
As a result, Liam Dwyer and Will Woodward are expected to revert to their regular flanker positions.
Henley also hope to have wing Liam O’Neill back, which would see Neil Baggett dropping to the bench.
The match pairs last season’s National 2 North and South champions, with Ionians seeking a first win.
Oxford Harlequins name an unchanged starting XV for their top-of-the-table clash at home to Swindon in South West 1 East.
Prop Nick Marshall and back-row forward Sam Bennett return on the bench, with Will Clayton (knee) dropping out.
Quins head of rugby Steve Chadbone said: “We would love a big crowd to watch what is a local derby.
“Swindon are unbeaten, but we don’t really know what we are going to come up against.”
Props Rikki Dore and Jamie Burke, flanker Carl Campbell, fly half Thom Murton and centre Matt Clarke come in for Witney’s trip to Devizes.
Joe Rowles moves from No 8 to second row, with captain Jez Hicks shifting there from blindside flanker, while Dave Hyde relocates from centre to wing.
Back-row forward Simon Copperwheat comes in on the bench.
Brothers Ben and Guy Nicholl, plus Paul Miles are all unavailable as Grove host Cheltenham.
Dave Maryon, Huw Lewis and Richard Haire replace them.
“We are having a bad time with injures, but I am not going to harp about it,” said manager Phil Rennie.
