Justin Burnell gave a measured thumbs-up to London Welsh’s first performance of the league season.
The Exiles’ head coach was pleased with victory over Bed-ford, but stressed they needed to improve greatly.
“It was a win, that’s what we came to do,” said Burnell.
“But the manner and style we won in, I didn’t think was good enough.
“I thought the basic skills were poor. If we rectify that and manage our set-piece, I think we will be fine.”
Burnell added: “The only rea-son they came back into the game was because of our errors, so that was the biggest disapp-ointment coming out of today’s game.
“I felt apart from the win, which was the most important thing, we could have done a lot more.”
Regarding the red cards, Burnell said: “I haven’t really looked at the video yet.”
Bedford director of rugby Mike Rayer said: “London Welsh should have been out of sight at half-time.
“We did well to really hang in there. I am proud of the lads for what they did and disappointed that in the end we didn’t squeeze a bonus point out of it.
“But that might have flattered us because although we huffed and puffed, we didn’t really look like scoring any tries.”
