CHINNOR have announced 11 signings and nine departures as they prepare for the new season.
The news comes in the wake of Craig Chalmers’s resignation as head coach to be replaced by Andrew Smith and Matt Goode in a joint role.
Their new players include Wasps academy trio Alex Harrison (centre/full back), Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas (back row) and Dan Barnes (centre) plus former Wasps junior Kai George (lock/back row).
Ben Farr returns to Chinnor, while fellow wing Joe Marston joins from Leicester Lions.
Chinnor’s other signings are Nathaniel Tichard-Jones (prop), Sam Rawstone (hooker), Andy Tibbats (back row), Sam Portland (wing) and Connor Hull (full back).
“The whole squad are training well and looking sharp,” said director of rugby John Vaughan.
The departures are hookers Matt Holyland and Simon Tattersall, lock Dave Hughes, back-row forwards Evan Sawyer, Jordan Wood and Joe Kava, centre Sam Stoop, full back Henry Colver and wing Tommy Gray.
Vaughan said: “Most of these were either due to retirement, family commitments or needing to move for jobs.
“We thank them of course for their massive contribution and wish them well.”
Reflecting on the coaching situation, Vaughan said: “We always saw Craig as a one-year and possibly two appointment and with the strong policy of recruitment from within, we had hoped that Andrew Smith and Matt Goode would then step forward.
“They now have the opportunity to do so and are incredibly keen to get cracking.
“They will need help on the administrative side and on match days and we are looking at making an appointment to suit.
“They have been a major part of the coaching set up for some time and this is a natural progression albeit a little more soon than we thought.”
Vaughan added: “We have a tremendous pre-season challenge and the key is for us to hit the ground running.
“This is a very exciting season for us and despite the set-back and in the face of it, the true Chinnor spirit will prevail.”
