Uncertainty over James Constable ’s future continues, with Oxford United not commenting on reports of another offer from Bristol Rovers.

The Pirates had two bids for the U’s striker, nicknamed Beano, rejected earlier in the summer, but ahead of the two teams meeting in the league on Saturday, manager Mark McGhee revealed another formal approach had been made.

He said: “We are still trying to persuade Oxford to sell him and, hopefully, we will get a decision this week.”

When asked by the Oxford Mail about the speculation, the U’s declined to give an official comment.
