AFC Wimbledon are in a “dogfight” to avoid relegation ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Oxford United, according to Jon Meades.

The Dons are just one point above the relegation zone in Sky Bet League One.

But a win would have the double impact of improving their chances, plus dragging United closer to the trapdoor.

Meades was part of the Wimbledon side who escaped the drop from League Two in 2013, before going on to join the U’s, where he made just ten appearances in an injury-hit two-year spell.

He told the club’s website: “We are under no illusions, we are in a dogfight. The key to it will be the spirit.”

Dons were comfortably beaten 3-0 at Blackburn Rovers in their last outing ten days ago, but are unlikely to be as poor when United visit Kingsmeadow.

He said: “We did not compete as well as we should have and that is criminal really in our position.

“Now we have 11 cup finals coming up and we have to make sure we don’t put in more performances like that.”

He added: “As players, we need to give the fans something to shout about as well.”
