TONI Martinez is back from injury – and back in the goals.

The striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United from West Ham United, was ruled out of the U’s run-in with a knee problem.

The Spaniard, who started nine games and scored three times since joining in January, received treatment on his injury from his parent club.

He took part in United’s lap of honour after the final game of the season and was given a rousing reception by fans.

Boss Michael Appleton has made no secret of his desire to try to lure Martinez, who moved to West Ham from Valencia for £2.4million, back to Oxford next season.

And it will not have escaped the attention of United’s head coach that the 19-year-old scored both goals as the Hammers’ under 23 team beat Newcastle United 2-1 this week to secure promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1.

Despite his spell out, the Spain under 17 international showed his class, delighting manager Terry Westley.

“This was his first game for two and a bit months, and he’s done really well to play,” Westley told West Ham’s website.

“His goals tally this season – 14 in 14 – is what he’s all about.”
