CONOR McAleny hailed an all-round team performance as Oxford United ended Millwall’s four-month unbeaten run at The Den in style.

The Everton loanee stunned the home fans with two terrific finishes in less than three minutes early on.

Apart from a 15-minute spell in the second half, United controlled the game and sealed a 3-0 victory when Josh Ruffels headed in Chris Maguire’s corner 19 minutes from time.

Millwall were extremely fortunate results elsewhere went their way, helping them cling to the final play-off spot in Sky Bet League One.

But there was no doubting the Londoners were second best.

McAleny said: “I think you’ve got to give us praise.

“We made it frustrating for them and we were pretty clinical when we got the chances.

“To go 2-0 up in eight minutes we had the upper hand straight away.

“I thought we were the better team for the whole game and fully deserved the win.

“The lads knocked Millwall off the park.”

The double again showed McAleny’s threat from around the edge of the box.

It also hit his target of reaching double figures during the loan spell from Everton – no mean feat for a player whose first start did not come until February 21.

He said: “The first one was just a matter of getting half a yard and having a snap-shot.

“It was pretty instinctive, I didn’t think too much about it.

“The second one I cut inside and used the defender as a shield.

“I’ve been missing a few in the last couple of games, so I was due.”

The 24-year-old’s first goal came from a pass by Ruffels.

The midfielder felt it was a huge boost to United having a player who is so deadly from 20 yards.

He said: “It’s great because you know he’s got that in his locker and he causes defenders so many problems.

“You know he will hit the target nine times out of ten.

“If you work the keeper like he does you will always score goals.”

Lions boss Neil Harris had no complaints.

He said: “There was only one team on the pitch in the first-half and they had yellow shirts on.

“For 17 games we’ve been fantastic here and over-run every team – including three Premier League teams (in the FA Cup) – but we perform like that in our last home game of the season. That’s disappointing.”
