MICHAEL Appleton hopes his Oxford United side can show their ability to a wider audience in tomorrow night's televised clash at Luton Town.

Sky Sports will be covering the Checkatrade Trophy semi-final, where there is a place at Wembley at stake.

United, who lost to Barnsley in last year's final, go into the game on a run of ten wins from their last 13 games in all competitions.

It has included some terrific attacking football, but they have a mixed record when covered by the satellite broadcaster.

Appleton said: "I hope we do ourselves justice for once on TV, because we’re not a bad side.

"We’ve played some really good stuff and been very successful over the last two years, but as it’s on Sky we’ve got an opportunity to show that."

  • Oct 2014: Cambridge Utd 5, Oxford Utd 1
  • September 2015: Bristol Rovers 0, Oxford Utd 1
  • January 2016: Millwall 0, Oxford Utd 2
  • April 2016: Barnsley 3, Oxford Utd 2
  • October 2016: Oxford Utd 1, AFC Wimbledon 3

United have built a reputation for pulling off cup shocks in the last two seasons, but tomorrow night they will be the higher-ranked side.

Appleton, though, expects a Luton side sitting fifth in Sky Bet League Two will be a very difficult opponent.

He said: "We’re coming up against a side sky high in confidence.

"They do go direct early doors to get themselves in the game, which is very sensible, and then they have players who can play in the opposition’s half.

"The fact it’s a one-off game makes it even more of an opportunity for Luton to get the victory they’ll be looking for.

"It’s always tough at Luton.

"We’ve had a defeat and a draw there in the last two seasons, but it could’ve quite easily been two defeats.

"The crowd get on top of you and it’s an intimidating atmosphere, but I think the players will be looking forward to that.

"We’re 90 minutes away from having another crack at a competition we finished second in last year."
