AFTER being impressed by Oxford United’s first-leg victory over Millwall, the last thing defender Jonjoe Kenny expected was to be playing in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy two weeks later.

The 18-year-old Everton loanee, who made his debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup, is in line to make his first start against the Lions, after joining the U’s for a month.

His signing last Wednesday came just a day before George Baldock was recalled by MK Dons.

After watching the first leg on TV, the right-back cannot wait to help Oxford in their bid to book a place in the final at Wembley on April 3.

“When I saw them they were brilliant,” he said.

“And when I heard the news Oxford wanted me I was a bit surprised because they had been doing so well, but I am buzzing for the challenge and can’t wait to get going.”

Kenny, who spent seven games on loan at Sky Bet League One side Wigan Athletic earlier this season, admitted this evening’s game will be the biggest of his career.

He said: “I haven’t been in this position yet, but I am ready for the challenge.

“It is what I have come here for – to do well and hopefully get Oxford winning trophies.”

Kenny added: “If it goes well in a month then I would love to stay for the rest of the season.

“They have got a lot of things coming up so I would love to get involved with it.”
