GEORGE Baldock paid a glowing tribute to everyone connected with Oxford United after making his last appearance for the club in Saturday’s 3-0 Emirates FA Cup defeat against Blackburn Rovers.

The right back has been recalled by parent club MK Dons after spending almost 12 months on loan with the U’s.

And on an emotional day, which saw the defender given a standing ovation by every United fan when he was substituted four minutes from time, Baldock admitted it was an occasion he would never forget.

While disappointed his stay ended in defeat as goals from Ben Marshall (2) and Tony Watt saw United’s Cup run end, the 22-year-old says he leaves with nothing but happy memories.

“The ovation I got shows the class of the Oxford United supporters,” he said.

“I will never forget the fans here. They have been absolutely different class.

“And I must mention the lads too – the boys have been brilliant with me and I have made friends for life here.

“Everything about this club is class – it will always be in my heart.”

He added: “Blackburn really respected us.

“They had done their homework, were organised, strong and on the day were just too good.

“I’d have liked to have gone out on a high, but it just wasn’t to be.

“I’m not going to lie though, it was emotional.”

Baldock will enjoy an instant return to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow night for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area final against Millwall – as a fan.

“I will be back here on Tuesday night supporting the lads and cheering them on for Wembley,” he said.

“I can’t wait to see the success this club is going to have.”
