CALLUM O’Dowda played 90 minutes as Republic of Ireland Under 21s lost 1-0 to Italy in a Euro 2017 qualifier.
The Oxford United winger, who scored his maiden international goal in Friday’s 3-0 win against Lithuania, laid on two late chances in Vicenza.
But Vittorio Parigini’s 66th-minute goal won the game for Italy, who played the final 20 minutes with ten men after Federico Bernardeschi was sent off.
Ireland's next games are away to Group 2 rivals Lithuania on November 13 and a friendly at home to Norway four days' later.
If selected, it would see O'Dowda miss United's home game against Cambridge United in Sky Bet League Two on November 14.
