OXFORD United’s squad to face Benfica B this evening includes a player on trial from Bengaluru FC in India.

Udanta Singh is on a month-long trial and could get a run-out in the behind-closed-doors game at St George’s Park, Burton, which kicks off at 6pm.

The 19-year-old forward is highly-rated in India and while it is not thought the U’s are interested in signing him at this stage, it could be the start of a link between the two clubs.

Bengaluru FC are managed by Ashley Westwood, who worked with United head coach Michael Appleton at Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers.

Appleton said: “Just from the development point of view we’ve said we will get him over for a month and introduce him into the English side of the game.

“It’s also good from a relationship point of view, building it up.

“At the end of the day if they feel they’ve got people like Udanta and there’s an opportunity for them to come over and showcase their talents it’s an opportunity for them to maybe get in the English game.”

Westwood said: "We are delighted that Oxford United have given Udanta a chance to train and improve at such a well-run and organised football club with some really good facilities as theirs."

Singh is likely to be on the bench against Benfica, as United play their second friendly in 24 hours.

Those who did not feature in last night’s 1-0 defeat at Woking are due to feature – including Patrick Hoban, James Roberts, Callum O’Dowda, Danny Rose and Chey Dunkley.
