A PROPERTY firm is challenging the local business community to raise money for charity with its annual ‘TRYathlon’ event.

Held at Tockington Manor School, the Colliers Bristol TRYathlon is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Sustrans, the UK charity encouraging people to make more journeys by foot, bike or public transport.

Director of fundraising at Sustrans, Julian Hall, said: “The TRYathlon is a fantastic event for people of all ages and of all levels of fitness. Money raised helps us reach more people, whether in schools, work places or in the community, where we enable them to cycle and walk more of their journeys.

“It also helps us maintain and improve the National Cycle Network. So by being active and taking part in the event, you can help others become active and healthier too.”

The event, held on Friday, June 19 at 12pm, includes a 400m swim (in a swimming pool), a 16km cycle and a 5km run.

Entrants are encouraged to put their teamwork skills to good use and enter as a group of three, taking on one discipline each or to give it all a go on their own as individual participants.

There will be awards for the winning male and female aged under 40, a veteran category, as well as for male, female and mixed relay teams. There is also one for a triathlon novice.

Tim Davies, head of office at Colliers International South West, said: “We already know people in Bristol embrace a fit and healthy lifestyle – we have the highest cycling rates of any major UK city with three and a half times the average number of us taking to our bikes.

“It is essential for us as businesses in Bristol to work with the community to help find solutions to the challenges we face in creating more sustainable lifestyles.

“We hope our TRYathlon will provide local businesses with the perfect opportunity to do just that, as well as strengthening working relationships between colleagues and giving individuals the opportunity to challenge themselves and their fitness levels.”
