A teenager has been banned from owning a pet after dunking a puppy into a bucking of ice water.
The boy, 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the puppy and has been ordered to pay £1,250 towards kennel fees.
The Staffordshire terrier was rehomed by the police following the incident in Oaklands Avenue, Edmonton, on September 3, 2014.
The incident came at the height of the 'ice bucket challenge' craze and the boy was seen in a video dunking the puppy.
The boy was filmed as he performed the stunt and nominated “all the others dogs here and all the cats as well, yeah.”
Protesters started an online petition to bring the boy to justice, collecting more than 2,800 signatures.
He was sentenced at Stevenage Crown Court yesterday.
PC Hazel Edgar, from Enfield’s Safer Parks Unit, said: “This is an excellent example of partnership work between Safer Parks police, the Status Dogs Unit, canine welfare officer, RSPCA and the MPS vet.
