KEMAR Roofe has an added motivation to finish the season strongly with Oxford United – he has not given up hope of playing for West Bromwich Albion.

The forward has hit form in recent weeks, scoring doubles in victories against Tranmere Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers.

Tomorrow’s game against Cambridge United is one of two games remaining on his loan, but unlike the rest of the U’s squad his summer break does not begin on May 2.

The 22-year-old will return to parent club West Brom, whose campaign continues for another three weeks, and he is hoping a strong finish with the U’s will catch the eye.

Roofe said: “My loan has flown by and I’m not ready for the season to end.

“My season doesn’t finish (on May 2), I’ve still got to go back to West Brom.

“It’s always in my mind, I’ve been there since I was seven and still yet to debut.

“I would love to (play this season).”

If he was to get in the squad during West Brom’s run-in, it would be against high-profile opposition, as they finish at home to Chelsea and away at Arsenal.

It could be the last chance the versatile attacker gets, with his contract expiring this summer.

Roofe arrived in February on the back of mixed loan spells in the past, but his impact is shown by the fact United have opened talks to sign him.

The versatile attacker puts much of the stint’s success it down to the influence of head coach Michael Appleton, who coached him as a youngster in West Brom’s youth team.

Roofe said: “The gaffer made the plan clear when I came in – he just told me to trust him and keep doing what I’m doing.”
