PATRICK Hoban took out a supporter for dinner last weekend after they travelled over from Ireland only to see him limp off injured.

A dead leg forced the 23-year-old off after half an hour of Oxford United’s goalless draw at AFC Wimbledon.

It was a blow for Ciaran Callan, who knew Hoban from his days working at Dundalk and had flown over from Ireland just to watch him play.

But the striker ensured it was not a wasted journey.

He said: “It was unfortunate, but I brought him out for dinner afterwards.

“We went bowling as well, so I made up for it a bit.”

Another supporter is coming over for the home game against Cambridge United next weekend.

Hoban appreciates the support he has received since crossing the Irish Sea.

He said: “There are people who wish me well from the league, whenever any Irish person goes over to England they want them to do well.

“Maybe there’s a bit of a fanbase there.”
