A MAN has lost his fight for life in hospital after being hit by a car as he tried to cross a road.

The 48-year-old suffered serious head injuries after being involved in an accident in Great Western Road, in Clydebank.

He was taken to the Western Infirmary, in Glasgow, after the incident around 9.15pm on Thursday, but died of his injuries yesterday.

Meanwhile, another man died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree and burst into flames in West Lothian.

The 27-year-old, from Broxburn, was driving his silver BMW when it left the road. Another man in the car escaped, while a third man was rescued by locals in West Calder.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 7.30am yesterday and two fire crews were dispatched to the scene in the town's Harburn Road, where they found the car still ablaze.

The road was closed for five hours while investigations were carried out and a report on the death will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A man fatally injured in another road accident was today named by police.

Patrick Kane, from the Glencarse area of Perthshire, was killed in a single-vehicle incident on the A90 Perth to Dundee road around 1am yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene near the Inchmichael garage, Errol, Perthshire.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for several hours to allow a full crash investigation to take place.

A report on the death will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
