OXFORD United have signed Richard Brindley on an initial one-month loan deal from Rotherham United.

The 21-year-old fills the gap United have had for a specialist right back since Joe Riley’s loan expired at the end of December.

Brindley, who spent time on loan at Scunthorpe United earlier this season, comes into the squad for Saturday’s trip to Stevenage in Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “It feels good, I got the call yesterday and I’m glad to be here and get an opportunity to play.

“I’ve played in League Two, League One and the Championship so I know what I’m capable of and I look forward to bringing it to the squad.”

There is every chance the deal could be extended if the next month goes well, according to United head coach Michael Appleton.

He said: “He’s a talented player and is very similar to what we’ve had previously at right back with Joe Riley.

“It’s an initial short-term loan for us to have a look at him and him to have a look at us.

“If he does well and enjoys the environment we’ll take it from there.”
