PETER Leven believes John Campbell will handle the step up from Northern League to Football League after seeing his talent first-hand.

The former Oxford United midfielder joined Jarrow Roofing as a player/coach in the summer.

He was quickly struck by the striker’s talent and thinks Campbell can be a hit in Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “Obviously it’s a step up, but he’s got the ability and he’s a great finisher, his movement is superb.

“He just need to get into that routine of full-time training.”

Leven, who is also now a coach in Middlesbrough’s academy, made sure the U’s were tipped off about Campbell.

He said: “I loved my time there and keep in contact with a lot of people.

“When John was scoring earlier in the season I sent clips to (United’s video analyst) Dan Bond saying ‘this kid is unbelievable’.

“I think he’ll surprise a few people.”
