NEARLY half the lapsed season ticket holders eligible for free entry to Oxford United’s home game against AFC Wimbledon tomorrow are expected to take the club up on their offer.

About 700 supporters who did not renew their season tickets during the summer were contacted about the offer last week.

It is one of a host of measures United are trying to improve attendances.

Fans have until today to contact the ticket office, with the U’s predicting more than 300 people will have accepted before the deadline.

  • Latest United news:

Kevin Smith, who is responsible for sales and marketing at United, has been pleased with the response.

He said: “I think anything over 300 is really good.

“It won’t change the attendance massively, but hopefully the 300 will remember why they used to come every fortnight and even those who haven't take it up will appreciate it.

We could’ve done nothing and we can’t do that.

“I think this is the right thing to do.”
