  • "Its hardly uncommon in football for there to be an exodus after a new manager joins. Usually they clear out what is already there and bring in their own people who they trust and value. It seems in the case of Melville and Lord that they have left by their own accord, but it may be a benefit in terms of Melville as it allows us to change the culture throughout the club, which after the last few collapses is most definately needed."

Oxford United are searching for a new lead physiotherapist after Andy Lord handed in his notice.

He is the second member of Gary Waddock’s backroom staff to resign in the space of a week, coming after first-team coach Andy Melville opted to call it a day.

Lord, who is likely to remain with the U’s until the end of next month, will part on good terms after almost three years at the club.

He said: “I’ve said to Gary I will help in any way I can if they need it on the recruitment side.

“There’s no bad feelings, it’s just time for a change and a fresh challenge.

“I’m getting out of football for a while and I will be working on a private practice.”

Lord, based in Hampshire, was also keen to praise the staff he will be leaving behind.

He said: “I’d like to thank everyone I’ve worked with and I think we have managed to establish a really good backroom team.”

United are already advertising the position.
