THE man behind the Ultimate Support Saturday initiative is hoping to give Oxford United a boost against Northampton Town tomorrow.
It is the third season for the scheme, which is aimed at improving the atmosphere and attendances at the Kassam Stadium.
This year’s day has coincided with the team enduring a disappointing run of results, but supporter Joe Nicholls believes the form makes it an ideal time for an extra push from the stands.
He said: “It’s a difficult time and everyone needs a boost.
“Hopefully this can be a positive because we all want the team to do well.
“You could see at the AFC Wimbledon game last month the fans really got behind the players (who came from behind to win 3-2) and we know if we can raise the roof it can make a difference on the pitch.”
A banner has been made for the occasion, while the most vocal fans in the Oxford Mail Stand have been called on to make a big effort.
And Nicholls is optimistic of repeating the success of the previous two years.
He said: “It’s been brilliant, I’ve had so many people getting in touch and saying they’re bringing friends or family.
“Hopefully we can create an atmosphere and the team win three points.”
