Oxford United fans will be able to meet their heroes and see the club’s new kit during an open day tomorrow.

The first team will take part in practice matches and five of the stars will take on five Oxford Mail readers in a penalty shoot-out.

Fans will also get an opportunity to tour the stadium, including the dressing room, and get signatures and pictures with the players.

The event takes place at the Kassam Stadium between 10am and 2pm and entrance is free.

Last year more than 4,000 people turned out and the club is hoping even more will attend this year.

U’s captain Jake Wright said: “It is a day all the players look forward to and a chance to meet the fans who give us great support all season long.

“The kickabout with the fans is always a highlight, and the shoot-out is always fun as well. I think we are ahead over the years, but only just.”

Club chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “The open day is about the club being a part of the whole community.

“It is the start of a busy week, with West Ham here for a pre-season friendly on Tuesday.”

The day will start with Oxford United’s 300 juniors taking part in a kickabout on the pitch and then taking on the senior team in a match.

The U’s new Nike kit will then be unveiled for the first time and fans will get an opportunity to get their hands on it.

On top of this, the club’s partners – including the Oxford Mail – will attend and bring along stalls, competitions and events.

Oxford United Supporters’ Trust OxVox will not be taking part in the day.

In a statement, the trust said the decision was because its members were not be allowed to take cash for membership fees at the event.
