Marsh on the mark for Oxford United's reserves

Tyrone Marsh was on target as Oxford United Reserves lost 2-1 away to Colchester United’s second string in the Football Combination on Tuesday.

The teenage striker, who has signed professional forms with the U’s for next season, scored a well-taken goal nine minutes into the second half.

It cancelled out Freddie Ladapo’s first-half header, but the home side hit back to score the winner 20 minutes from full time through substitute Drey Wright.

Tony Capaldi got another 90 minutes under his belt as the full back continued his return from injury, alongside fellow first-team pros Anthony Tonkin, Simon Heslop, Mark Wilson and Paul McLaren.

The U’s also used handed a trial to two strikers – Charlton Athletic’s Tosan Popo and Ben Whitehead, from Swindon Town.

Assistant manager Mickey Lewis said: “We were certainly in the game throughout and it was a decent workout for everyone.”

The reserves have one game remaining this season, against Stevenage at Didcot Town next Tuesday.

United: Crocombe, Lynn, Long, Tonkin, Capaldi, Heslop, McLaren, Wilson, Popo, Marsh, Whitehead. Subs not used: Allen, O’Dowda, Udumaga.
