Kinniburgh is let go by United

Defender Steve Kinniburgh has left Oxford United after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old left-back first joined U’s on loan from Rangers in 2009, making 12 starts in the club’s promotion season from the Blue Square Premier before going back to Glasgow.

He then joined the U’s on a permanent basis at the start of the 2010/11 season and made a further 15 starts.

Kinniburgh had a loan spell at Cambridge United earlier this season but found opportunities limited when he returned to Oxford.

He said: “Oxford are a great club and I have really enjoyed my stay, but I want to play games and it is time to move on.”

Adam Chapman has joined Blue Square Premier club Newport County on a month's loan.

The midfielder, who had been training with Mansfield Town, made one sub appearance for the U’s at Morecambe this season.

It's a shame that things haven't worked out for him at the Kassam. He did really well for us in his first spell, up until he got that injury, and his vision and delivery looked world class - in the context of the Conference. He was never really quite the same after he came back, but I will always remember that stunning goal he scored for us that night against Crawley, where he chipped the keeper from way outside the box. That moment turned what had become a very niggly game back in our favour. Good luck Stevie and thank you for everything you have done for the Yellows!

I can't help feeling that Kinniburgh hasn't been managed particularly well by Wilder. I was really impressed with his dedication to us during and then after his loan spell. Another decent player leaves...

OX26Hound is right, he was never the same after the injury. I think OUFC have been fair - he's been given an extended period to prove otherwise. Anyone who saw him at Sheffield will know he's not quite League 2 and definitely not League 1. He'll be an excellent Conference player for someone.

I agree wtih Whitstablexile... Yet another player who did brilliantly when he was here on loan only to be left out in the cold when he signed. Unless you're Wilder's flavour of the month you don't really stand a chance. Hopefully Kinni will get the chance to make a point elsewhere.
